Hurst Teen Arrested For Impersonating Cop

HURST (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― According to police in Hurst, Lance McClung was fascinated with becoming a police officer. That fantasy landed him in some very real trouble. The 17-year-old boy was arrested for impersonating a police officer.

Dwayne Beal recalled, "About 4:45 in the afternoon, I was going over to my mom's house and a car pulled up behind me and lit up lights that looked like a police car." He thought that something was strange, so he just kept driving. The car passed Beal without incident.

Then, Beal said, "About 30 minutes later, I left my mom's to go to the hardware store and I saw that same car on the corner without the lights on."

Beal noticed a young man inside the car watching a real Hurst police officer writing someone else a ticket. "I pulled up behind her and notified her that this guy is watching you. He's a young kid and he's got a full light set up in his car," Beal said.

The female officer called for backup and McClung was taken into custody. Police were surprised by what they found in the imposter's car. "The elaborate setup that he had gone to was somewhat of a surprise. He had actually set up his equipment so he could display it, turn it on quickly. And when he was not using it, it could be stowed back below window level," said Sgt. Graig Teague with the Hurst Police Department.

McClung was carrying much more than some lights in his car. He had a metallic clipboard, leather business card holder, a statement book, a laminated Miranda card and a books of fake tickets.

"We need the public to be aware that these things occur," said Teague.

McClung spent one night behind bars and was charged as an adult with impersonating a public servent. He is now out on bond.
