Irving Police Search For Violent Attacker
IRVING (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Police in Irving are asking for assistance from the public in finding the person/persons responsible for two especially violent aggravated robberies in the Valley Ranch area. The suspect has targeted women walking alone twice in just four days.
According to authorities the first attack happened on October 12 after a female delivery driver for Domino's Pizza pulled into the business parking lot, in the 10000 block of N. MacArthur Blvd.
As soon as the woman got out of her car a man attacked the woman with a claw hammer. The victim was seriously injured after being hit in the face, head, and arm. The attacker got away with $10.
Amy Carter and Sharon Longman run the "Paw Spa" dog salon. It's next door to where the pizza driver was attacked Sunday night. "We just are very aware that being female we have to be extra careful. But we do everything we can to go out in pairs and to just pay close attention to what's going on," Carter said.
The second attack happened October 16. In that case a woman was attacked as she walked home from a store in the 9800 block of W. Valley Ranch Pkwy. The suspect choked the victim and hit her in the face, either with his fist or an unknown weapon, several times. The attacker fled the scene with the woman's wallet which only contained a small amount of change.
"Apparently we've got somebody now that is not afraid to use force and violence to get what he wants," said Officer David Tull with the Irving Police Department.
Because of the similarities in the attacks, the time of day when they occurred and suspect description, police believe both crimes were committed by the same man, but warn there may be two suspects on the loose.
While no suspect has been identified, the attacks occurred around the corner from each other and police believe the suspect is familiar with or may live in the area.
The suspect is described as a tall, clean shaven, black male with short hair, around 6-feet tall and weighing 175 pounds. During one of the attacks the suspect wore blue jeans and a t-shirt.
Irving police are concerned the violent robberies could continue and are urging women to take extra precautions and not walk alone if it can be helped.
Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to contact the Irving Police Department at (972) 721-2518 or call 911.
