Loftin Facing Fine Over Alleged Kiss
FORT WORTH (AP) ―
Jerry Loftin has defended some very high profile clients. Now, he may have to take the stand and defend himself.
An alleged courtroom kiss has the attorney facing a misdemeanor assault charge.
Jerry Loftin is set to stand trial in October on one count of assault by offensive contact for allegedly kissing a court reporter in a Johnson County courtroom last month.
Loftin has called the situation "uncharacteristically ridiculous." His accuser has been quoted as saying the facts will be presented in court.
"I went with a peck, an 'I'm sorry' something like that. It was less than what the potential presidential candidate did to his vice president." Loftin told CBS 11.
Loftin says he didn't even kiss the court reporter, but a few hours later a deputy found him and told him a complaint had been filed.
If convicted, Loftin faces a maximum fine of $500.
Attempts to contact the court reporter by telephone on Saturday were unsuccessful.
Jerry Loftin is a regular contributor to legal segments on TXA 21.
