Deadly Hit And Run Takes Life Of Dallas Mother
By Arezow Doost
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A North Texas family is pleading for help in finding their mother's killer. Joann Lee was killed in a hit and run in the 3200 block of North Hampton Road early Saturday morning. Police say the 49-year-old mother was left to die.
Just before 2 am Lee was hit as she crossed North Hampton Road and Dennison Street, near her apartment complex. Her family has started a memorial at the site.
A witness told police the driver who hit Lee was speeding -- going 65 to 70 miles an hour. The posted speed limit in the area is 35mph.
Jessica Lee is having a hard time coping with her mother's death. "I just miss my mama," she said.
Joann Lee was pushing a shopping cart when she was hit by a pickup. Police say her body was dragged more than 130 feet.
"Come forward. Why you do my mama like that?" Jessica Lee urged the driver. "She was a good person. She gonna be well missed and loved. I will be alright if you just come and let me know that you did it."
That's the problem... police are trying to find the suspect too. "We have very little to go on, other than the suspect vehicle description," explained Lt. Andy Harvery, with the Dallas Police Department. "That's why we are seeking public's assistance, hoping that someone can get us some information."
Lee's family says they're not sure why she was out so late. All they want now is the person responsible held accountable. "He just need to be caught and took off the street. 'Cause he don't need to be walking on the street, driving, or nothing else," Jessica Lee said.
Police say the suspect was possibly driving a 1999 Ford f-150 pickup. The truck reportedly had tinted windows and damage to the front end.
If you have any information about what happened to Joann Lee call Detective Marchetti with the Dallas Police Department at 214-671-0014.
