The get well wishes and cards keep pouring in for Kim Boggs of Corinth. The 36-year-old mother of two survived the unthinkable.
Police say 50-year-old William Gilmore simply walked up to Boggs and shot her, for no apparent reason. Gilmore is being held for attempted murder at the Denton County Jail.
"He came up and my head was kind of turned," explained Boggs. "I remember looking down at my daughter. I had her on my knee. I'm lucky I was not facing him. Otherwise, the shot would have probably killed me."
Boggs was sitting at a picnic table in Fairview Park when the bullet went through her face and out her neck. "After it happened, it was such a shock. I said, whoa... What was that? I realized that I got shot. I looked down and I could barely hear anything."
When Boggs was shot her two-month old baby girl fell to the concrete, but was not injured. "I got her and picked her up and put her in the stroller. I kissed her goodbye. I thought that was going to be the last time I saw her," Boggs said emotionally.
Somehow, Boggs managed to walk across the street to find help from a neighbor. "I had to do that for my kids. In a way, I thought it was going to be over," she said.
With the help of a Good Samaritan neighbor Boggs struggled back to the park. There, her baby girl was still in her stroller and her frightened four-year-old son was hiding in plastic tunnel on the playground.
Wednesday night Boggs was recovering at home and had her family there to comfort her. However, she still can't figure out why she was the target of a random act of violence. "How dare he come up and shoot me. I've got my children there. It's not right to do anybody that way."
