Lewisville Dive Teams Search For Missing Boater

LEWISVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A recovery mission is underway at Lake Lewisville for a man between 30 and 35-years-old.

Officials say the victim was with a friend of his out on a pontoon boat just east of the I-35 bridge Wednesday afternoon.

The surviving friend said they went swimming and he went back to the boat to get a "personal item." That's when he heard the victim yelling. The boat was not anchored, and it drifted about forty yards away from the victim.

The friend jumped in to try to save the victim. They were on their way back to the boat when both of the men became exhausted and the victim went under.

Seventeen members of Lewisville Fire Department are working with the game warden and CareFlight helicopter. They have not been able to locate the victim. The fire chief said because the boat still wasn't anchored when they arrived, they are dealing with a search area about the size of four football fields.

Crews will continue searching until it gets too dark.

The name of the victim has not been released.
