Lewisville Store Clerk Recovering After Being Shot
LEWISVILLE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A convenience store clerk at the Fina Whip-In in Lewisville is recovering after being shot during a robbery attempt on Thursday night.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Stephanie Jafraty.
A man wearing a grey hoodie, dark-colored pants and a ski mask entered at about 10:30 p.m. and attempted to rob the store. Fortunately, Jafraty's boyfriend heard the gunfire, called 911 and ran to her aid.
911 Operator: "Is she conscious right now?"
Boyfriend: "She's been shot. He shot her. I don't know what it is. Yeah, she's conscious."
911 Operator: "Is she breathing?"
Boyfriend: "Yeah, baby, breathe. Look at me."
Jafraty: "I have mace in my eyes."
Boyfriend: "She has mace in her eyes."
Police credit the boyfriend with helping to control the bleeding until paramedics arrived on the scene.
Jafraty was taken by helicopter to a Dallas trauma center. She is listed in fair condition after a successful surgery.
The robber got away with nothing. "It was useless," said Kathy Morris, one of the Jafraty's co-workers. "What did you get out of it? You didn't get anything out of it. You took someone's life and just destroyed what little bit she had at that point in time."
People in the store on Friday said that the strip shopping center is a tightly-knit family that bands together in times of crisis. "We're all a big family, really," said Taz Kubasta, a co-worker of the boyfriend. "We all take care of each other."
Well-wishers offered donations in the store on Friday to help the victim when she recovers.
