Burglars Hit N. Texas Lifetime Fitness Centers

by Jay Gormley
ALLEN (CBS 11 News) ― Police say a thief is targeting Lifetime Fitness members who wear a certain kind of jewelry.

Over the last month, 8 club members had their lockers pried open and their Rolex watches stolen.

The Lifetime in Plano has been hit twice and the Colleyville center has also been hit.

"I feel that Lifetime did not take reasonable steps to put us on notice that these thefts were occurring in their facility," said Tom Greenwald, theft victim.

Three of the victims belonged to the Lifetime Fitness in Allen. They say their watches were stolen on the same day while they were working out.

"I feel violated," said theft victim Tom Bastian. "You come here to work out and you think your belongings are safe and that it's a good safe place."

The men are angry because the thefts have been recurring, and they say little has been done by Lifetime to stop the thief.

"When a locked locker is broken into and the items are hidden, then there has to be somebody sitting in the locker room casing the joint and watching as members come in with their valuables," said Brian Lucia, another theft victim.

Although the common item stolen has been Rolex watches, the thief is also grabbing everything else in the lockers, including cash and other valuables.

"The person that has my wallet has my credit card information," said Greenwald. "They have information from my health insurance card related to my wife and my children."

Lifetime Fitness issued the following statement:

Upon being notified of the locker thefts, we implemented additional security measures. Those include the posting of signs warning members of the thefts, placing additional employees to monitor the locker rooms and working with local police departments to deter future thefts.
