Man Killed Laying Down On DART Rail Line

A Dallas man is dead after being run over by a DART light rail train.

For unknown reasons the man laid down across the tracks in front of an approaching train Thursday evening.

The accident happened just north of DART's Mockingbird Station.

A DART press release says the train operator attempted to use the train's emergency break, but could not stop the train in time.

Light rail service along the Red Line at Mockingbird and Lovers Lane was replaced with bus service while crews cleared up the rail line. Service was restored Thursday night.

DART officials say this is the first fatality on a light rail train since a man laid on a track near today's scene in March of 2007.

DART will run a Sunday schedule along its ligh
