Man Sentenced To Death Again In Dallas Slaying

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS/AP) ― A man has been sentenced to death for a second time in the 1989 slaying of an 81-year-old Dallas woman.

Mark Robertson, who was sentenced Thursday, had won a second sentencing hearing.  Robertson's lawyers argued the original jury didn't receive the proper instructions on how to consider Robertson's drug use and past discretions.

"Our horrific childhood… I wouldn't wish that on anybody," said Robertson's sister, Denise Breedlove, in a past interview. "We had a horrific life and when he was left alone, when we all left, you feel the responsibility… as a sister, I do anyway."

Robertson shot Edna Brau between the eyes in 1989 as she slept on the couch.  He was sentenced to death for killing Brau and her 19-year-old grandson Sean Hill, in their Preston Hollow home.

Authorities said after shooting Brau and her grandson, who was a friend of Robertson, he took some money from her purse and stole her blue Cadillac, which was found eight days later at a Las Vegas casino. When Robertson showed up at the car, he was arrested and immediately confessed.

Robertson is also serving a life sentence for killing convenience store clerk Jeffrey Saunders.

After the verdict, Brau's son, John Brau, said that Robertson was a "cancer to humanity" who has only cared about himself.
