Media Executive's Wife Hit By Car While Jogging
(CBS 11 News)
The wife of the president of a Belo top executive is in the hospital after she was struck by a driver in Highland Park.
Maureen Decherd is the wife of Robert Decherd, the chief executive officer of Belo Corp., which is the parent company of the Dallas Morning News.
Mrs. Decherd was hit by a driver in Highland Park while she was jogging Saturday morning.
Neighbors are furious and have warned of the dangers at the intersection of Beverly and Byron.
"The insanity of sending ten thousand Mockingbird cars a day down a residential street, and a stones-throw from a school is simply absurd," resident Mark Bunting said.
Residents said Beverly Drive has a higher volume of traffic currently, because it's the detour road for cars rerouted from Mockingbird, which is now under construction.
They have complained that the street was too small for so much traffic. They claim families and children would be endangered with the rerouting.
Mrs. Decherd was thrown more than 30 feet and hit her head against a curb.
Officials said traffic volume had nothing to do with Saturday's accident. The driver stopped at the stop sign, but police say she was not paying attention when she hit Mrs. Decherd.
She remained in the hospital Saturday night.
Belo Corp. recently announced plans to separate its print and broadcast operations. Robert Decherd will become CEO of A.H. Belo Corp. at the beginning of the year.
