Victim Of McKinney House Explosion Dies

McKINNEY (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Nancy Foster, one of three people injured in a May 16 natural gas explosion in a residential neighborhood in McKinney has died.

Foster had been hospitalized in Dallas since the explosion that destroyed her home. Her death was ruled accidental, and according to the medical examiner was caused by complications related to her burns.

The structure that was once home for Foster sits as a pile of rubble today, adorned with sympathy wreaths.

For more than two months the 77-year-old grandmother fought for her life with burns over more than half of her body.

The summer explosion leveled Foster's home and two others in the 600 block of Fenet Street. The explosions were caused by a natural gas leak when an Atmos Energy subcontractor accidentally punctured a gas line.

Foster, her friend Arthur Bryson, 76, and 27-year-old neighbor Raul Moreno, were all critically injured in the explosions. Moreno was treated for burns over 20-percent of his body and has been released from the hospital. Bryson was released from Parkland Hospital last week and is recovering at a rehabilitation center.

Lawsuits are now pending on behalf of all three of the victims.

Foster's son says the anger of his family is magnified now that his mother had died. "We're very upset and angry about it. This should have never happened. It's gross negligence," explained Charles Foster. "This should never have happened and we do not want any other family to suffer like we've suffered."

The Foster family says their loved one struggled immediately after being injured, and then her condition would vary from day-to-day. The family says Nancy Foster took a turn for the worse about two weeks ago and unfortunately was in a lot of pain.

"My mom, she was a wonderful lady. She was a great mother and we're going to miss her a lot," her son said. "We know she's in good hands now and she'll be well taken care of by God."

McKinney police have now forwarded a 'reckless conduct' case against the subcontractor to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. Officials there will decide if more extensive charges should possibly be filed.
