2 Fort Worth Restaurants Hit By Copper Thieves

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 News) ― Bernd Schnerzinger is steaming mad after thieves stripped two of his eight air conditioning units of their copper. The 42-year-old man owns Edelweiss restaurant in Fort Worth.

"It angers me so much that people take from what I've worked so hard with the sweat of my palms," he said.

Next door, three of the nine units at the restaurant Giovanni's were also hit.

"It's ridiculous, $19,000 is a lot of money for a restaurant owner to come up with," said the restaurant's owner, Giovanni Zeqirt.

Customers may notice a slight change in the temperature, but it's the kitchen staff at both restaurants that will have to sweat it out. Fans have been set up in the kitchen to help keep the staff cool.

Both owners plan on attaching alarms to their current and future air conditioning units. If the units are tampered with in any way, the thieves will not go unnoticed.
