A night at home watching television turned into a terror for one Tarrant County couple.
The incident happened around 8:00 p.m. Sunday night at a home in the 8400 block of Spence Court in North Richland Hills. Marianne Wilkinson answered her doorbell and was met by an armed gunman.
According to police in North Richland Hills, the 68-year-old woman and her husband were simply watching television when the doorbell rang and someone opened fire.
Mr. Wilkinson did not actually see the shooting, but found his wife in their home's front foyer. She later died.
A neighbor spotted the gunman jump into a gold-colored car and leave the scene.
"At this point, we don't know if he was the passenger or the operator of the vehicle, just know that he did leave the scene in some type of gold vehicle," said Investigator Larry Irving of the North Richland Hills Police Department. "And the only other information we have is that he may of possibly been wearing a hoodie-type sweater or something of that nature."
Police do not have a motive for the shooting, and are now looking for the cold-blooded killer.
CBS 11 News cameras were on the scene Tuesday as investigators found a discarded cell phone and a battery near the corner of Spence Court and North Tarrant Parkway. The suspect's vehicle is believed to have traveled through this intersection shortly after the shooting. Police are still unsure if the phone is related to the crime.
Another witness may be able to provide some information in the case. A car was also at that North Richland Hills intersection as the suspect fled the scene. However, police have not been able to locate that other driver.
Anyone with information about the shooting or the other witness is asked to contact the North Richland Hills Police Department.
