Rain Keeps Falling Across North Texas
Flash Flood Watch In Effect Until Sunday Evening
(CBS 11 / TXA 21)
With the lion's share of rainfall occurring on Friday, North Texas is under a Flash Flood Watch through Sunday evening.
Rain showers continue to blanket much of North Texas as a stalled upper level low spins overhead. The good news: heavy rain has let up to lighter showers and has become spottier.
The center of the low's circulation is near Killeen where as much as 13 inches of rain fell over the past two days.
Since the rain began in North Texas, rainfall totals have ranged as high as 4 to 8 inches in some areas. A swath of heavy rain fell in southeastern Collin County from Lake Lavon to Wylie to Parker where estimates are between 5 to 8 inches.
CBS 11 viewer Greg Richards from Venus reported 7.48 inches so far at his home in eastern Johnson County. Similar amounts of rain fell between Midlothian and Waxahachie. Most viewer reports have come in under 3 inches.
The activity overnight will be spotty and over-all will prove to be much lighter than Friday's torrential rain. As the upper low slowly works its way northeastward, showers and embedded storms will persist through Sunday evening.
With the heat of day Monday will come more showers and storms, but the primary focus will be northeast of the main metropolitan area.
SUNDAY:
Overcast skies with more intermittent showers and embedded thundershowers. Rain chances 60%. Temperatures nearly steady in the low to mid 70s. Northeast winds 5-10 MPH. Additional rainfall up to an inch.
SUNDAY NIGHT:
Activity tapering off a bit. Occasional showers with rain chances dropping back to 40%. Temperatures remain steady near 70. Northeast winds 5-10 MPH.
MONDAY:
A few breaks in the clouds with a 40% chance of showers and thundershowers. Highs near 82.
