Family Pleads For Help Finding NorthPark Shooter

Marianne Martinez
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― Friends of a woman shot at NorthPark Shopping Center in Dallas pleaded for the public's help Monday in tracking down the gunman.

Family friend and spokesperson Christina Adcock told CBS 11 News Mary Boyd is still in the intensive care unit at Baylor Medical Center,  but should make a full recovery.

As of Monday evening, hospital officials had upgraded her condition to fair. She will most likely need reconstructive surgery on her face.

Boyd was shot during an aggravated assault Friday night at NorthPark Center. A gunman reportedly approached Boyd's truck as she sat in the parking lot waiting to pick up her daughter from the movies.

The man told Boyd that he had a gun and ordered her to open the door. As the mother tried to drive off she was shot in the face. The gunman got away but Boyd was able to drive to a valet stand for help.

Dallas police say there is no surveillance video of the actual crime. The shooting took place on the very edge of the parking lot, which is out of sight from the cameras.

Those who know and love Boyd are hoping a hefty reward will entice someone to come forward with information about the shooting.

"Just try to think," Adcock asks of the public. "Did you see a car speed away? Did you see someone running?  Was it anything unusual?"

The North Texas Crime Commission has added $5,000 to the reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the suspect in the shooting. That brings the total reward money to $40,000, with NorthPark Center and Schepp's Dairy offering $25,000 and $10,000 rewards respectively.

While the search continues for the gunman, friends and family say they can't understand why anyone would shoot Boyd. "If he would have walked up and said 'I need your truck', she would have given him the truck," says Adcock. "If he said, 'I needed $20', she would have given him a hundred and wished him well. That's just the type of person Mary is."
