Oncor Cuts Trees Despite Opposition From Residents

DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― The battle between Dallas resident Mini Caruth and Oncor, the power provider, is over.

Utility crews began clearing trees from power lines in Caruth's neighborhood - near Greenbrier and Durham - Wednesday. "I asked them not to. My husband asked them not to. The neighborhood asked them not to," said Caruth.

Caruth said she had a problem with the way the trees were being cut, saying there is no attention being paid to aesthetics or health. She said she wanted Oncor to wait until the weather was cooler.

"We only asked them to wait six weeks so our trees won't die from being over stressed from being gutted whie they were under stress. They did it anyway."

Oncor officials say they have an obligation to do so. The trees, they say, are being cut for safety reasons and to make sure the resident's electricity wasn't threatened.
