Dallas School Employee Caught In Online Sex Sting
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
An employee of The Hockaday School, an elite all-girls academy in Dallas, is out of a job after, according to police, he was caught soliciting sex from a minor over the internet.
Police arrested 61-year-old William Catterson on Tuesday. He was charged him with two counts of felony online solicitation of a minor. The Dallas all-girls school employee was under investigation by the FBI and police detectives in Dallas and Houston.
According to officials at the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Catterson thought that he was having sexual conversations with a 13-year-old in Houston. In reality, the other person was an undercover agent.
Detectives said that they moved quickly on the case when they learned that Catterson worked at the all-girls school. Eric Devlin is the Assistant District Attorney in Harris County. He explained, "We moved a whole lot faster this time than normally because of the fact that he is a teacher and he has access to kids. Normally we see if he's going to meet or send some other stuff, but we couldn't take the risk with this one."
Officials with the District Attorney's Office said that Catterson was actively chatting online with the agent when police entered his office area. Authorities ordered the suspect to move away from the computer.
The parents of students at the school said that they are comfortable with the security at the campus. "I feel very comfortable with my child at this school," said parent Jane Schneider, "and I feel that they do as much as they can do, as far as security at the school."
Catterson has bonded out of jail, but has been terminated from his position at the Dallas school. Police are trying to determine whether or not he had any inappropriate conversations with students.
