Plano Mom Accused Of Dropping Child From Stairwell

PLANO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― A mother in Plano has been accused of intentionally dropping her 21-month-old daughter from a second story stairwell twice. She is now being held in a Collin County jail on $1 million bond.

According to authorities, the mother called 911 from her home on Wednesday, just after the first alleged drop. She was still on the phone when she allegedly retrieved the child and dropped her again.

The mother's attorney will try to get her out of jail on Monday.

In court documents, the attorney for 37-year-old Padmaja Enjeti said that he realizes the weight of this situation, and how this story struck a nerve with the community, but his client is mentally ill.

According to the attorney, Enjeti is a diagnosed schizophrenic with a history of mental illness.

Enjeti's husband has also reported a history of hallucinations.

The child is now in the custody of Child Protective Services and is expected to be okay.
