Alleged Flasher Arrested After Victim, Cop Chase
Chase Ends In Crash
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A North Texas mother is being credited with getting a flasher off the streets.
The Fort Worth mother of two chased the man after he exposed himself to her in a Wal-Mart parking lot on Wednesday afternoon.
"She noticed one row over a Hispanic male outside his car, looking at her and touching himself," said Lieutenant Dan Draper, Fort Worth police spokes person.
The woman, who does not wish to be identified, described what was going through her mind.
"First off, you're disoriented. You don't know what you're exactly seeing," she explained. "Then, when it clicks what you are seeing, you're surprised and shocked and horrified almost."
She then called 911.
"I didn't want it to happen to anyone else, and God forbid my daughter had been with me," she said.
The man, identified as 28-year-old Jose Angel Benavente Rodriguez, got in his truck and drove away with his alleged victim in pursuit.
"I was letting police know that he was swerving. He was going pretty fast and then extremely slow," she said.
She followed him east on North Tarrant Parkway and the south on Denton Highway. Police joined in the chase near Highway 377 and Shipp Drive, where Rodriguez allegedly caused a four-car crash.
"He all of a sudden got into the left turn lane, and when he did, he never slowed down," she said. "He never stopped, and slammed right into the back of that car."
The victim wished it didn't end that way, but she's thankful the alleged flasher is off the streets.
"This type of behavior can lead to more violent behavior like rape," said Lt. Draper.
Rodriguez was arrested right after the crash. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident.
