Saginaw Men Say Cop Impersonator Robbed Them
SAGINAW (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Two Saginaw men say they were set up for an armed robbery. They were held at gunpoint, tied-up and left in a van. They say one of the suspects wore fake police gear.
One of the victims, who did not wish to be identified, spoke about the incident to CBS 11.
He said he and the other victim are door-to-door salesmen for XRT, a television equipment outlet.
They were meeting a couple in a parking lot on the 5400 block of Blue Mound Road, but only one man showed up.
That's when the victim says another man wearing police gear jumped out and pointed a 9-millimeter glock at his head.
"He was getting into the vehicle to look at the stuff, and that's when he showed his police badge," said the victim.
The men said they immediately knew the badge was not real.
"When we saw his buddy approach, that's when we already knew it was for sure it was a set-up," said the victim.
The suspects stole their merchandise, wallets and cell phones.
The victim hopes police will find fingerprints and other evidence to add to what appears to be an initially vague description of the suspects - three young Hispanics.
"These people looked very credible, very clean cut, regular average Joes," he said.
Saginaw police are investigating the possibility of other cases and expect to put out a bulletin Tuesday.
