New Orleans Mayor May Lose Collin County Home

FRISCO (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― The mayor of New Orleans is facing losing his Collin County home.

New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin and his wife Seletha Smith-Nagin own a home on Grosetto Drive in the Bella Casa subdivision of Frisco.  Collin County records show the Nagins have owned the home for nearly two years.

In 2007 Nagin told members of the New Orleans media he was buying the 1700 square foot townhome as a vacation and possible evacuation home.

The Nagins now face the possibility of losing the home for failing to pay homeowner association dues.

In paperwork filed March 17 with the Collin County court, a notice of lien was filed with the court in January for failure to pay HOA dues.

The property owners plan to sell the townhome to pay off the debts.  The sale is scheduled for April 7.

Nagin was unavailable for comment, but mayor's spokesman James Ross released a statement saying "this is a personal matter that does not involve the mayor's mortgage.  He expects to have it resolved shortly."

Nagin has been mayor of New Orleans since 2002.  He led the city through Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
