Richardson Roadway Closed After Deadly Accident
RICHARDSON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A car accident in Richardson resulted in the death of a semi-trailer truck driver. The incident happened at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday along the frontage road of the George Bush Turnpike, at the Waterview Parkway exit.
According to authorities on the scene, the truck was heading east along the frontage road, through a green light, when a pickup truck traveling southbound sped through the intersection. The pickup truck ran right underneath the semi-trailer truck.
The driver of the semi-trailer truck lost control and flipped the vehicle on its side. He died instantly.
The man and the woman inside the pickup truck were severely injured and taken to Parkland Hospital.
According to police in Richardson, it will take several hours to clean up the accident scene. "What's caused the biggest confusion is its fuel leak," said Sgt. Pete Cannon of the Richardon Police Department. "So, we have hazmat here. The possibility of fire, there are exposed wires from the light pole standard. And, there's several different apparatuses involved to actually upright the vehicle."
The flipped semi-trailer truck was carrying frozen foods. Cannon said, "We are going to have to unload it eventually, because it's loaded down."
This is only one of over 100 calls that police in Richardson have received since the start of the new year. In fact, officers scheduled to work in the afternoon were called in early to assist with the various situations.
