ROANOKE (CBS 11 News / AP) ―
Three people, including one child, were killed in a three-car accident late Sunday night in Roanoke.
The fatal crash happened at about 9 p.m. near U.S. 377, just north of Texas 114.
According to police on the scene, a car was attempting to pass another car on a two-lane highway. The passing car slammed into a vehicle in the oncoming lane.
The Roanoke police captain said the accident scene was one of the worse he's seen in his entire career. The accident was so brutal, investigators were on the scene until 4 a.m.
Roanoke police identified the dead as 29-year-old Rachele Bowman of Southlake, 24-year-old Joshua Adkison of Virginia Beach, Va., and a 2-year-old girl. Police are withholding the child's name.
Police say 24-year-old Kristina Adknson of Virginia Beach was airlifted to Fort Worth's John Peter Smith Hospital, where she was listed in serious condition Monday afternoon.
Jolene Owen, 47, of Haslet was treated for minor injuries at Denton's Presbyterian Hospital and discharged.
"At that time of the crash, I knew there was a lot of praising to do," Owen said. "I didn't know who could have survived anything like that."
Police are investigating to determine if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
