Victim Offers $ For Roanoke Shooter Information

ROANOKE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― One year after being shot, a Roanoke man says he'll pitch in his own money to help find the gunman responsible.

Kurt Smith says when he showed up at his uncle's metal building construction business, in May of 2007, he found his uncle, Nolan Ragsdale, and badly beaten cousin, Robert Courtney Ragsdale, tied up.

A shotgun carrying man, wearing a ski mask, followed Smith as he tried to run out of the building. The 41-year-old man says when he turned and confronted the gunman he was shot in the leg and the masked man ran away.

Because of his injuries Smith had to be taken to John Peter Smith Hospital by CareFlight Helicopter.

Since that day Smith has had several surgeries on his lower right leg. The bullet shattered the bone and ripped away the tendons.

Denton County investigators say they're still searching for the shooter. Smith says he'll add $5,000 to the $1,000 already being offered by Crime Stoppers for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.

"I confronted the guy when he had a shotgun," Smith said. "If I knew where he was I'd go get him myself."

Last year police released a sketch of the suspect. He is described as a white male in his mid-20s, who possibly has a Cajun accent.
