CBS 11 News is learning disturbing details surrounding the murder of a Roanoke mother. Denton County search warrants reveal a demonic bible was confiscated from one of the suspect's home.
Now some are questioning if the occult could have played a factor in a group of teenagers alleged involvement in the murder of Susan Bailey.
Bailey was found dead late last month inside her Roanoke home. Bailey's daughter and son, along with her daughter's boyfriend, are all charged in the murder.
A search warrant affidavit outlines the chilling discovery police made inside the home of the 16-year-old suspect, who is the boyfriend of Bailey's daughter Jennifer. According to the affidavit, authorities found a demonic bible belonging to the teen.
The demonic bible was found at a mobile home in Haslet, where the 16-year-old suspect lives. A computer was also taken from the house.
The affidavit also has information about the discovery of notes, allegedly detailing the plot to murder Bailey. The handwritten notes were allegedly kept by the victim's son and were discovered in the 14-year-old's school locker at Medlin Middle School in Trophy Club.
The search warrant also reveals that along with the notebook, a copy of the book "Dragon's Blood" was found inside the locker of Bailey's son. The book, Dragon's Blood, is reportedly a fantasy story filled with demonic undertones.
Religious Professor Dr. Jim Atwood says it's possible the suspects used the satanic literature, not as motivation, but justification for their actions. "I think it was used along the way to kind of justify, used kind of as a scapegoat maybe, for what they had in mind - doing away with their mother," he explained.
Susan Bailey's mother, Jan, told CBS 11 News she still can't comprehend the murder. "It's a mystery. We never saw it coming," she said. "We don't know what happened yet."
After learning of the death of the 43-year-old mother, Bailey's family made the emotional trip from their home in Minnesota. They say Susan was a caring, hard-working single mom who loved her family and never alluded to any problems.
"It's horrendous for our family," Jan said. "We miss her. We miss our grandchildren. It's awful."
Jan told CBS 11 News that so far she has not had any contact with her grandchildren, but hopes to speak with them before returning to Minnesota.
A memorial service for Susan Bailey is scheduled for Thursday evening.
