One man is dead after police say he threatened an off-duty North Texas police officer.
From the scene,
in the 700 block of Interstate-30, a Rockwall police
lieutenant said the off-duty officer, Brandon
Hernandez with the Garland Police Department, drove into the parking lot of the Lake Point Church and encountered a man in a Mustang.
The lieutenant said the man in the Mustang,
identified as Troy Pool, pointed a handgun at Hernandez. At that point, the off-duty officer opened fire and shot Pool multiple times. Pool, who appeared to have a gunshot wound near the pelvic area, was taken to a hospital by ambulance and later declared dead.
Sources say the officer was a member of the church, but the man in the Mustang had no affiliation with the church. They are not sure why he drove into the parking lot.
Rockwall police say t
he case remains under investigation.
