Spurs Have High Hopes For Brazilian Forward
SAN ANTONIO (AP) ―
The San Antonio Spurs today introduced the latest addition to their group of international players -- Brazilian forward Tiago Splitter.
The NBA champion Spurs took the 22-year-old in the first round of the draft.
The 6-foot-11 Splitter has one year left to play with Tau Ceramica in Spain, but hopes to join the N-B-A champions for the 2008-09 season.
Splitter played 20 games in the 2006-07 Euroleague and averaged ten-point-seven points and six rebounds per game.
The Spurs took him with the 28th overall selection.
Splitter says he's glad to be in San Antonio. He calls it a great opportunity for him to be part of the club and the city.
The Spurs already have several international players, such as Manu Ginobili and Fabricio Oberto of Argentina, and finals M-V-P Tony Parker, who was born in Belgium and raised in France.
