High School Shooting Drill Upsets Dallas Police

DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― According to police, a high school in Dallas put officers at risk for no reason. This comes after officials at the Dallas Independent School District's W.T. White High School ran a school shooting drill.

The incident happened on Friday morning. School officials re-enacted the procedures that would take place if a school shooting were to occur. The campus was placed under lock down. Teachers shut classrooms and students were held, per an announcement made to the entire school.

However, scared students sent text messages to their parents, who called the police.

"There were rumors that someone heard a shot," one student said.

Officers raced to the scene with lights and sirens blaring, believing it was a real suspected school shooting. This only added to the tension on campus. Authorities were not pleased to find that the entire thing was just a drill.

"That in itself put citizens in danger, in jeopardy," a Dallas Police Department spokesman said of the drill.

Police in Dallas believe that the school should have informed them about the drill. School officials said that informing the police is not standard procedure.
