Six Flags Over Texas Accident Injures 5
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 News) ―
Five people are recovering after being injured at Six Flags Over Texas on Sunday night.
Park officials say there was an unexpected interruption on the 'Texas Tornado' circular swing ride after a mechanical bearings failure at the top of the ride.
A statement issued by Six Flags Over Texas representatives on Monday says, "emergency protocol was followed to the letter and the backup safety system went into action. The safety mechanism stopped the rotation and the ride was lowered abruptly, causing it to come down at a faster rate. This action led to some of the ride chairs being jarred."
Four guests were treated for minor injuries at the park's first aid area.
Another adult woman who complained of back pain was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.
The 'Texas Tornado' sends riders in a circle, faster and faster, while ascending and descending. Since the accident, the ride has been closed and will be thoroughly inspected and repaired by engineers before opening again.
