Southlake Approves Controversial Development Plan
SOUTHLAKE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The City of Southlake voted Tuesday night on a proposed development that's created quite a bit of controversy.
Residents filled the meeting room in city hall to discuss item number 6A on the agenda: the Carillon Project.
The project is a proposed mixed-used, 285-acre development for Southlake at Highway 114 and North White Chapel Boulevard. The proposal calls for housing, retail, restaurants, hotels and office buildings.
Some say it's exactly what the town needs. Others say it will bring problems with overcrowding in schools and traffic.
"It doesn't seem very fair that a couple people make money and a couple of people grow, yet everybody else tends to lose," said one Southlake resident who spoke at the council meeting.
"This is the type of developer that we've been praying for, for this track, for a number of years," said another Southlake resident.
The town meeting lasted for about two and a half hours. In the end, the council approved the proposal 7-0.
