Keeping Cool Key At Taste Of Dallas
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
The heat did not burn out the turnout for the first night of the annual Taste of Dallas.
Thousands made their way to the West End for this first night of the food fest.
The event has been going strong for 23 years straight. It's always hot for the Taste of Dallas, but this year is different.
The music was hot, so too were the high flying acts. And don't forget the food.
But in a few cases the heat left some in the hands of paramedics.
Rick and Yvette DeLeon kept the water handy, and waited for the sun to set. "We waited until a little later to come out."
An estimated 300-thousand make their way to the 3-day food fest yearly.
Snow cones are hot items. But organizers know the key is keeping folks cool and safe.
Dave Demer with the Taste of Dallas says people are taking note. Heat related complaints are few. "We have a medic here full time. I think we've only had 2-3 people complain of the heat this year."
Large tents are being used this year. Nearby restaurants have the patio misters going. The cooks for Longhorn Barbeque may have the toughest test. Its 200-degrees near the pit. But cook Taylor Nelson may carry the mindset for most when it comes to the heat. "I'm getting used to it."
On Friday Night there were only 7 heat related incidents reported by Dallas Fire and Rescue. They remind anyone heading down to Taste of Dallas to pre-hydrate for the weekend.
