Prosecutors: Woman Caused Shooting Death Of Lover
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A North Texas woman yelled rape, and her husband killed the suspect, but Tuesday she was the one facing a Tarrant County jury.
April 29th was the first day of the trial for Tracy Roberson. The 37-year-old woman faces a manslaughter charge for the shooting death of her former lover, Devin LaSalle.
LaSalle was shot and killed outside Roberson's Arlington house in December of 2006. That night Roberson's husband, Darrell, had returned home from a poker game to find his wife and LaSalle having sex in a truck parked outside.
While Darrell Roberson fired the shots that killed LaSalle, it happened after his wife claimed she was being raped. Tracy later admitted that she had lied and was a willing participant in the sexual activity.
"We're gonna show you through the evidence that Tracy Roberson invited Devin LaSalle to that house that night and that Tracy Roberson got Devin LaSalle killed with her actions," Tarrant County Prosecutor Sean Colston told jurors.
A grand jury failed to indict Darrell, but Tuesday prosecutors told the jury that LaSalle's death is Tracy Roberson's fault, because she knew that her husband would 'shoot to kill'.
Jill Davis, Tracy's defense attorney, told jurors the woman may be guilty of adultery, but not manslaughter. Davis pointed the blame at Darrell Roberson.
"He is not aiming to shoot what he thinks is his wife's rapist, he's aiming to shoot anyone because he's jealous and he's angry," Davis said.
Tracy and Darrell Roberson are still a couple and remained at each other's side throughout testimony Tuesday.
