Grand Prairie Teacher Accused Of Child Indecency
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Police in Grand Prairie arrested a local middle school teacher, and accused him of Indency with a Child.
The accused, Robin Smith, was teaching at Adams Middle School last year. And that is where police believe the victim attended classes as well.
A man leaving Rob Smith's home Monday issued a 'no comment' when CBS 11 News crews approached. One neighbor said she knew little about the teacher.
On Monday, the 7th grade math teacher was placed on leave from his current job at Truman Middle school.
"At the time of the offense the child was 12 years of age," explained Grand Prairie Police Sgt. Mike Gudgel.
Grand Prairie Police say the allegations against the teacher and coach go back at least a year. The alleged victim was a middle school student at the time.
"The child that made these allegations actually made an outcry to a witness," Gudgel said of the incident. "The witness, at that point, contacted the Grand Prairie Police Department and the school district. We are currently working in conjunction with the school district in reference to this investigation."
The 30-year-old teacher posted bond and is free tonight.
Outside his old school, parents were obviously alarmed.
"It's a sickening feeling to know that the school system had somebody like that up here," parent Gerald Huckabee said. "It's very disturbing."
