Water Floods Some Dallas Hospital Parking Garages
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A couple of Dallas hospitals went into emergency mode when their streets and garages started flooding. Patients and employees are okay, but a couple of dozen cars didn't make it.
Workers at Baylor Hospital Dallas were still pumping out their parking garage late Thursday afternoon.
They're still pumping water out of the Baylor parking garage and the same for the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas
where flood waters covered cars in the lower levels.
While at Baylor Hospital Ber Williams said, "I seen the water just risen on up."
Many owners of vehicles in the parking garage simple didn't see the warning signs, or didn't get their cars out fast enough. "It was kind of scary at first. I just was in the doctor's office just looking down at it just rise," explained Williams.
While water never entered in the hospital, Baylor officials did re-route ambulances for about 30 minutes while the flood gates were put up.
Meanwhile, UT Southwestern was dealing with some of the same issues. Workers there had to pump out the lower level parking garage, where a dozen of cars were submersed.
Some waterlogged cars even had to be towed. "I'm hoping water didn't get down into the engine and seize the whole thing up," said frustrated car owner Justin Murray.
Around 10am Thursday morning, Robin Ray was on her way to UT Southwestern when she got stuck at a sewer line break on Inwood. "I called 911 and I stood out here for about 45 minutes, in the pouring rain, and nobody showed up," she said.
It was 3pm before someone came along and pulled Ray out - for $100. "I didn't think it was gonna be this bad, but ya know I kind of had to get dirty, had to get down in the water, but whatever," said tow vehicle owner Tanner Andregg. "I'll go home and take a shower and we'll be good."
As a precaution UT Southwestern evacuated their first two floors. Baylor had no evacuations.
