University Park OKs Land Sale To SMU

(CBS 11 News) University Park officials say 100 percent of the ballots have been counted and voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot proposition allowing the City to negotiate with Southern Methodist University on the sale of Potomac Park.

The small undeveloped parcel is about ¾ of an acre located just behind the Park Cities Plaza Shopping Center on Mockingbird Lane.

The proposition stipulates that proceeds from the sale of the land to SMU will only be used to acquire or improve other park property.

City officials report of 2,202 votes cast, 80.9 percent – or 1,782 residents -- voted for the proposition. 420 residents voted against it.

The City has nearly 14,700 registered voters.
