Vandals Terrorizing Elderly Fort Worth Residents
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Elderly residents in one Fort Worth neighborhood say they are being terrorized.
They say vandals have been breaking windows and cutting off their power in the middle of night.
The vandals struck again Saturday night.
"It just went BOOM. It sounded like a gun," said 73-year-old Emma Lou Moore. "It frightened me so bad when it did that. It gave me a headache so bad, my head was pounding."
The noise happened while she was sleeping, and Moore had to be hospitalized overnight.
The sound ended up being a rock to her window.
Her son, Gary Moore, said this is about the tenth time in recent months he's replaced the window. Gary said several elderly people have been targeted.
Bessie Lusk's power was also turned off Saturday night.
"I don't know why they turned the lights off," said Lusk. "Maybe they just want me to be in the dark or be afraid or something."
The elderly people in the neighborhood say no one has been hurt and nothing has been stolen. But are still worried the crime will escalate.
"I am concerned about how far they go," said Lusk.
Moore, who is dependent on her walking stick, is afraid she'd have a hard time running away
Police say they are still looking for the suspects, who will likely be charged with criminal mischief.
They say crime against the elderly in Fort Worth is random. The most common crime they see is identity theft.
