North Texas Soldier Dies In Afghanistan

WASHINGTON (AP) ― The Pentagon reports that a 20-year-old soldier from suburban Fort Worth has died in a vehicle rollover while serving in Afghanistan.

Army Pfc. Peter K. Cross of Saginaw died Friday at Combat Outpost Carwile, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained in the rollover.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

The Defense Department says that at least 640 members of the U.S. military have died as of Monday in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan as a result of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in late 2001.

Of those, the military reports 474 were killed by hostile action.
