Police Look For Answers From Corinth Park Shooter

CORINTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ― CBS 11 News has learned more about the man accused of shooting a Corinth mother at a park. Court documents show the shooter, William Gilmore, talked about killing others.

Police were at the park, looking for more evidence Tuesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Gilmore had several weapons and hundreds of rounds of ammunition. "As to why somebody would do this in this particular instance? It's just unbelievable. It's disgusting and it's cowardly," said Lt. Lance Stacy with the Corinth Police Department.

Police are still trying to figure out what may have lead the 50-year-old man to shoot Corinth mother Kim Boggs.

According to an arrest affidavit, Boggs was at Fairview Park with her husband and two young children on Monday around noon. After Boggs' husband left the park, police say Gilmore walked up to her, didn't say a word, and shot her in the neck.

There is apparently no relationship between Boggs and Gilmore. "We don't have anything that links them," said Lt. Stacy.

After being shot, Boggs was able to make it to a nearby home. It was there a Good Samaritan called for help and went back to the park to look after Boggs' children.

Corinth police say Gilmore turned himself in, just a few hours after the shooting. "I think there probably is something deep-rooted in this suspect. We just have to try to figure out what that is," Lt. Stacy said of the investigation.

Gilmore gave police audio tapes in which he talked about "stranger-on-stranger murder." Also on the tapes were comments that the "killing would continue until which time we start policing ourselves and other officials."

Monday, police reconstructed the crime scene at the park and looked for more evidence. Officials also searched Gilmore's vehicles and a vacant home where he lived. In all, they found 700 rounds of ammunition and several weapons.

Boggs' husband told CBS 11 News that his wife will most likely remain in the hospital for a few days, but is doing well.
