Woman, Child Hit And Killed By Car On Sidewalk
DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ―
A woman and child were hit and killed Saturday night by a drunk driver.
The accident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night in the 3900 block of Overton Road in Dallas.
The driver of the car drove up onto the sidewalk, hitting the woman and child, carrying them about 20 feet before they were thrown to the ground. They were both taken to area hospitals where they later died.
The driver of the car was also taken to a hospital so that police could get a blood sample. A nearby crowd kept the driver from trying to leave the scene before police could arrive.
The woman was identified as 38-year-old Kimberly Robinson of Dallas, the Dallas Medical Examiner's office identified the child as Robinson's grandaughter, 1-year-old Taliyah Banks.
The driver has been identified as 54-year-old Ellis Haywood Jr. Dallas Police say Ellis has been charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter. A passenger in his car was arrested for public intoxication.
