Parents Discuss Son's Boxers Seen Around The World

FORT WORTH (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Check out the photo the right. It's of a soldier from Fort Worth and it appeared in the New York Times on Thursday. The young man's parents got a kick out of it and CBS 11 News learned that Army Specialist Zach Boyd will get his 'just desserts' when he gets home.
You could say it's the shot seen around the world. In the photo the 19-year-old is wearing his "I love NY" boxer shorts during a firefight against the Taliban in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Boyd's parents say he called to tell them, but never said anything about the boxers. "I just busted out laughing," said Boyd's father, Tommy Boyd. He went on to explain that when he had the comedic moment his wife wasn't around. "She was in the other room. She thought I was dying in there."
Sheree Boyd was amused by the photo and also by her husband. "He laughed so, so hard," she said.
The Boyd's immediately went to a local book store and bought up all the New York Times newspapers.
The couple told CBS 11 News that their son explained to them that while he was resting, and his fellow soldiers stood patrol, the Taliban suddenly attacked. Zach told them that he got up, grabbed is body armor, helmet, and gun, but forgot his pants.
"I don't think he was worried about his pants," Tommy said laughing. "He just wanted to get out and get in the fight."
Besides the boxer shorts, Zach was wearing a T-shirt from Woolley's Frozen Custard.
The North Texas business is one of the teenagers favorite places when he's home. Woolley's store owner John Woolley says the joke is to wear the shirt 'wherever you go'. "We've seen quite a few, like the Eiffel Tower and all around the world, but I just never dreamed of a war zone," he said.
At Woolley's Frozen Custard there are several concoctions on the menu that are named for the customers who enjoy them. Now Woolley says he will put Zach's favorite on the menu too.
