Woman Accused Of Attacking Child Talks To CBS 11
DALLAS (CBS News) ―
A Dallas elementary student said he scared to go back to school Monday. That's because he said he was attacked by a school volunteer. But the volunteer said it was the 12-year-old boy who attacked her.
"This boy charged me," said DeShayla Black. "He had my shirt and my sweatshirt in hand, gripping me."
On Wednesday, 12 year-old Mark Johnson said Black, a Frederick Douglas Elementary School cafeteria volunteer, attacked him while he was cleaning a lunchroom table.
"She said I was ugly just like my momma, and so I said something back to her," said Mark. "Then she came over there and grabbed me by my legs and then we started fighting."
While the school called police, Mark called his mom.
"I get up there and my baby is covered up with bruises all around his neck. She bit him. She hit him in the mouth. She assaulted my child," said Cassandra Reagan.
Police took pictures of Mark's bruises, scratches and bite wounds. Officers also ticketed Black for a misdemeanor. But Black said she never bit Mark and was just trying to defend herself after he attacked and injured her.
"It took two coaches, a third man and two women to get this boy off of me," she said.
The school did not hold Mark at fault, but he and his mom blame the school and say Mark's too scared to go.
"I got so scared I thought that if I looked at a teacher, she'll jump on me," he said.
As for Black, she said her future is marred.
"This is going to hurt my job - in getting a job anywhere as far as working with children, working with students. It's going to be on my record, and I've never had anything on my record. I've never had a problem with police," she said.
Black had volunteered at the school for one year. Now, the Dallas Independent School District has told her she may not return to the campus.
Meanwhile, Mark's mom is seeking legal advice. DISD police are continuing their investigation.
