Arlington Charities Needs Donations To Help Hungry
Sana Syed
ARLINGTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Arlington Charities is desperately trying to deliver Thanksgiving dinners to 800 families; the problem is they have plenty of sides, but no turkeys.
The grocer the non-profit was working with told the organization they didn't have the turkeys they needed.
The grocer normally sells the turkeys to Arlington Charities at a discounted rate, but this year customers bought all those turkeys at a sale they had, leaving none for the charity organization.
Many families rely on the services of Arlington Charities for thanksgiving.
Arlington Charities won't say which grocer backed out on the deal, but she's not bitter because she believes in miracles.
"God takes care of us."
Charity executive director Melanie Gibson says two of her workers heard a blurb on the radio about some company that got too many turkeys and didn't have enough freezer space.
Gibson says she still needs 300 turkeys.
Today was the last day for families to sign up for a Thanksgiving dinner. But Arlington Charities is keeping its doors open because people kept coming in.
Meals will be distributed next Monday and Tuesday. Gibson says she's counting on more miracles to get families through thanksgiving.
