Police In Irving Searching For Armed Robber
IRVING (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Irving police are searching for the man who threatened to kill employees and customers as he robbed the Auto Zone auto parts store in the 2100 block of Rochelle Friday morning.
One of the people threatened was a customer who walked in on the robbery.
"He told me to get behind the register and lay down or he was going to shoot me and he was going to kill me," said customer Jerry Zerda.
"So I just listened to him and laid down right there. And after that I couldn't tell nothing because I was face down."
Another customer, Richard Head, said he entered the store, saw a person face down on the ground and left the store to call police.
"It was scary," Head said.
"You hear about it all the time but you don't think you'll be involved in something like that.
I'm just glad none of the employees were hurt at all. I'm ecstatic about that."
Police arrived within two minutes of receiving the call, but the robber was long gone.
"We did determine that he'd left probably fifteen minutes prior to us getting the first call on this, so he's been gone for quite some time," said Irving police spokesman David Tull.
"The criminal investigation division is working on this from here and we'll see if we can't get this individual arrested and in jail."
Police don't have a usable description of the crook.
