Denton Police: Is Baby Left In Street OK?
DENTON (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
A North Texas police department wants to make sure a baby is okay. Their concern comes after a 'scary' scene Sunday night. That's when the baby, strapped in a car seat, sat in the middle of the intersection at Audra and Nottingham in Denton.
A Good Samaritan spotted the child but said before they could get to the baby another woman came and took the child.
A motorist from Sanger discovered the 3-4 month-old African American boy sitting in the intersection in a tan and navy blue car seat. The Good Samaritan said the child wasn't crying and at first thought the car seat was empty.
A few moments later a woman allegedly drove up and said 'That's my baby!', took the child, and drove off.
Police were called to the scene but couldn't find the child or the adult woman.
Now some are questioning if the woman placed the car seat on top of the car, forgot about it, and started driving. "It's very possible," said Officer Ryan Greele with the Denton Police Department. "We're looking at all realms. Is that one of them? Yes. Did someone just drop by and put the baby on the ground
possibly yes, also."
The woman who took the child from the scene is described as a heavyset African American woman, standing 5'5", with shoulder length hair. The woman was wearing a dark bandana, pajama bottoms and a white t-shirt with writing on it. She left in a dark colored, late model, Mazda four-door vehicle.
Denton police ask that if you have any information about the child or the woman fitting the description that you call (940) 349-7963.
