Back To School Resources, Including Start Dates

(CBS 11 News) Back to school anxiety, new routines, safety tipssleeping schedules, managing academics and extra-curricular activities  and even finding healthy alternatives for lunch  these are just some of the topics families face as the new school year begins.

CBS 11 News has compiled some resources for parents and caregivers and teachers -- as well as in-studio guests -- to help in this transition and even in the battle with what to wear.  The Fort Worth ISD has changed parts of its dress code for this school year.  You can read about them here.

The U.S Department of Education has posted several publications to assist parents as they help their children succeed in school and life.

These booklets feature practical lessons and activities to help school aged and preschool children master reading, understand the value of homework and develop the skills and values necessary to achieve and grow.

In Texas, state law says that, except for year-round schools, public schools cannot start the year earlier than the fourth Monday of August. This year, that's August 25. Most North Texas schools start on that date. But a few schools in our area have chosen to start later than the 25th. The Burleson, Crowley, Denton and Northwest ISDs start on August 26. Forney starts on August 27.
