U.S.-Mexico Border Violence Causing Travel Fears
By Arezow Doost
DALLAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
With spring break coming up, many Texans are heading south.
But the U.S. State Department is warning about going to Mexico this year after an increase in violence (see more

Travel experts say though the alert includes border towns, tourist destinations are safe.
Terry Butler is planning a vacation to Cancun in June.
He's having doubts after reading about the violence along the border between drug cartels.
"You think about what went on in India," he said, "with the hotel getting bombarded," referring to the
terror attacks in Mumbai in November.
Catherine Banks, with Legacy Travel in Dallas, says she's swamped with calls from travelers asking about security across the border.
According to a travel alert from the State Department, tourist areas like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Cozumel are safe.
Even so, travel experts fear the violence along the border could impact travelers even throughout the summer.
"The things affecting people now are going to have an affect all the way through the summer," Banks said.
Thought the deals are limited now for spring break, you can save big for this summer. Packages including airfare, hotel and all you can eat and drink can start at just $600.
So Butler says he's not ready to cancel just yet. "If it stays as is," he said, "I don't think I'll have any problem going."
