Boy Scout Badges Recalled For Lead Levels
IRVING (AP) ―
A common badge awarded to young Boy Scouts is being recalled amid concerns of dangerous levels of lead.
As many as 1.6 million badges may be affected by the voluntary recall.
Boy Scouts of America spokesman Gregg Shields says a supply of plastic totem badges, usually given to Cub Scouts between the ages of 7 and 8, contained unacceptable amounts of lead during product testing.
Sheilds says no illnesses have been reported.
Shields say the badges are supplied by Georgia-based Kahoot Products and made in China. Kahoot is calling for a voluntary recall of the badge and asking parents to take them away from their children.
The Boy Scouts of America are based in Irving.
The recall is the latest in a growing number of products made in China that have been recalled because of fears about lead.
