Moms Protest Facebook Breastfeeding Pics Policy

NORTH TEXAS (CBS 11 / TXA 21) ―
Some North Texas mother's are part of an online fight against Facebook. The social networking website is under fire for deleting photos of mother's breastfeeding.
Some moms are so outraged they're protesting Facebook online. The women are taking part in virtual 'nurse in's'.
The women who spoke with CBS 11 News, one from Garland and one from Richardson, say pictures of breastfeeding mother's aren't obscene. The new mothers are outraged that they can't share the photos with their friends on their Facebook pages.
The 'nurse in's' are part of a nationwide movement. There's even an online petition that already has thousands of names.
Alison Grady has her picture up and she's breastfeeding. She says she had noticed that the picture was cropped, but says there is no way she is taking it down. "I really cherish the moments that I have with my children when they are nursing, she Grady explained. "I wanted to have some photographs of it, so I could remember. It's just so sweet when they gaze up in your eyes and you get to know them and their personalities."
Mother Vicky Suarez said, "I can't believe Facebook can't tell the difference, or thinks that other people can't tell the difference, between a sexual photo and a nursing photo. A nursing photo is a family oriented photo of a mom nurturing a baby. These other photos are something else. They are not the same."
A Facebook spokesperson told CBS 11 News they do not remove all breastfeeding pictures from the website, only the ones that break certain rules.
In a statement a spokesperson wrote "Photos containing a fully exposed breast (as defined by showing the nipple or areola) do violate those terms and may be removed." The statement went on to say the policies are designed to ensure Facebook remains a safe, secure and trusted environment for all users, including the many children who use the site.
Officials with Facebook also pointed out that the photos were brought to their attention by other users, who complained.
