I-20 Bus Fire Causes Passenger Evacuation

DALLAS (CBS 11 News/AP) ― Nobody has been hurt in a bus fire along Interstate 20 in south Dallas in which passengers scrambled out of the burning vehicle.

More than 20 passengers and the driver could be seen standing by the side of the road Tuesday with their baggage, in the rain.

Authorities suspect the fire started in the engine compartment and was most likely electrical.

The bus had stopped at the 'Flying J Stop' on Bonnie View for breakfast. The bus began to smoke as it left the truck stop and passengers had to kick the door open because the hydraulics turned off when the engine died.

Dallas Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Sherrie Lopez says the bus is operated by Transportes Los Nortenos of Houston.

After a short wait, passengers were loaded onto a new bus and departed for San Antonio. Officials believe the bus was bound from Columbus, Ohio, to Monterrey and Mexico City.
